Convention vs. Convenience

Consumers are
not restricted to reaching information and services through a single
point.

Popular search engines
such as Google.com include a Web site’s domain name within its indexing
criteria, therefore, a domain name
that directly matches the users search has a strong chance of appearing
at the top of the search results. Also the number
of Web pages on the Internet continues to increase so does the time
it takes to find a relevant site… to overcome this frustration more
advanced Internet users have taken
to typing the most relevant domain name directly into their internet
browser.

Web
sites will shrink. It's
the conclusion of many experts that the typical business Web site
contains too much information for the average customer to consume.
Megacorporate sites from companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Cisco,
and IBM are too cumbersome for business use. Look for more companies
to invest some effort into developing
smaller, tactical microsites or
Web services that
are focused on a single function or customer group.
